David is making the right moves to step up

TEENAGER David Bremang is determined to gatecrash Coventry City’s League One play-off push.

Bremang has been in fine form for the Under-23s and hopes he is doing enough to force his way into the first team scene.

The 18-year-old striker took his tally to four goals in three matches with a penalty in a 3-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers at the Alan Higgs Centre last week.

Bremang was picked up by the Sky Blues last summer after impressing at the Conquest Academy which develops young talent in the south of England.

“I’ve started to settle down and I’m enjoying it now.

“When I started it was a bit different to where I’m from and I’ve had to get used to it and now I’m starting to like it a lot.

“I’m still getting used to the way of playing and I have to do more things to improve for myself and then to help the team going forward.”

Mark Robins keeps a regular eye on the club’s emerging youngsters and Bremang hopes to have caught the manager’s eye after coming through a challenging start.

“It feels good to have got a few goals recently because I don’t think I started off too well when I joined,” he said.

“But now I’ve got the first few, I’ve started to score more and hopefully I can continue this from now on.

“It’s helped me boost my confidence knowing that I can come into the game and my mindset is right and I can help the team try and win.”

“It was good to be amongst the goals and help the team with assists and that’s what I want to keep doing, get myself in positions to help the team score goals. The target is to keep scoring, keep assisting and hopefully I will get my chance in the first team at some point.”

As City prepare for the long trip to Plymouth for Saturday’s game, we spoke to Argyle fan Brian Dick for the lowdown on the struggling Green Army.

What should we expect from Argyle? The unexpected, they are the very model of inconsistency, able to score and concede goals in clutches.

They’re unbeaten in three but before that lost two, won one and drew one of their previous four.

They are second bottom of the League but the feeling is that they might have turned a little bit of a corner having improved defensively in the last couple of games.

Oscar Threlkeld’s return has given everyone a bit of a lift and he could start for the first time on Saturday. Ozzy is really popular with Argyle fans.

That said Southend’s Charlie Kelman scored from his own half last weekend as Argyle threatened to throw away a 3-0 lead. Thankfully they ended up holding on 3-2.

Who are their danger men? Everyone knows about Graham Carey but in truth he’s not been dominating games as much this season.

The two most in-form players are midfielder Antoni Sarcevic and striker Freddie Ladapo.

The 25-year-old scored for the first time in six games in the 3-2 win at Southend on Saturday and now has 13 this season. Another danger could come in the form of Calum Dyson who hit a hat-trick for the reserves on Tuesday night.

Despite struggling to adapt to life in League One so far, it could act as the perfect springboard for success in the first team if he is moved back into the frontline. Helpful stat No side has conceded more goals in the opening 15 minutes (nine) nor final 15 minutes (13) of League One action this season than Plymouth. They’re pretty competitive in between.

Argyle have scored a couple more goals than Coventry this season - but they’ve conceded 17 more.

What does history tell us?

That Coventry have enjoyed decent success against the Greens and are unbeaten in their last four.

They won 1-0 at the Ricoh in August as Amadou Bakayoko scored a penalty just before half time and Jamie Ness was sent off on the hour.

The last visit to Home Park was in December 2009 and that also resulted in a 1-0 Championship victory, courtesy of Freddy Eastwood.

Indeed the last time they lost to Argyle was a 4-0 drubbing in April 2009. All the goals were scored in the first 40 minutes.

What does the manager say?

Ever taciturn Derek Adams was not getting carried away by the win at Roots Hall.

“There are too many people in this world who want to pull you down as quickly as possible.

“The gap is closing all over the league; we’ve enabled that by having a really good performance.

“The way the league is, there are only a few top teams; everybody else is more than capable of beating each other. I don’t see too many teams who have played against us this year being outstanding.

“It’s not like there is a Blackburn or a Wigan last year. I thought they were by far the better teams.”

Prediction

I’ve got a feeling we’re on the up so I’m going for a 2-1 home win.

I’ve started to settle down and I’m enjoying it now. It feels good to have got a few goals David Bremang
