A MAN was blasted in the leg in the third shooting in Coventry in 24 hours.

The incident saw armed police descend at Coventry’s University Hospital where the victim was being treated.

A number of armed officers were seen at the hospital site in Walsgrave on the evening of Tuesday, February 5.

West Midlands Police confirmed they were called after a man turned up at the hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg.

The man had been shot inside a house in Elkington Street, Bell Green, before making his way to the hospital.

The 29-year-old had suffered a shotgun wound to the upper leg.

Photos from the scene show police taped off a house and a car in Elkington Street and the property was still being ‘held’ by officers yesterday to “carry out a thorough examination”.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police stated that three people - a man, a woman and a 17-year-old boy - have been arrested and remain in police custody.

The full statement from West Midlands Police read: “A man presented himself to University Hospital Coventry at around 7.30pm last night (February 5) with a shotgun injury to his upper leg. The 29-year-old’s injury is not life-threatening.

“It’s understood the shotgun discharge took place inside an address in Elkington Street. Contrary to social media speculation, there was not a firearms discharge at the hospital.

“Armed officers were deployed to the address and West Midlands Police is holding a scene at the property in order to carry out a thorough examination. A 21-yearold woman, a 26-yearold man and a 17-yearold male youth - who are all known to the injured man - were arrested at the hospital in connection with the shooting and they remain in police custody.”

The Telegraph has also contacted University Hospital and West Midlands Ambulance Service for comment.

The shooting was the third incident involving a gun in the city in the space of 24 hours.

It followed a gun being fired through a door in Earlsdon at around 8pm on Monday, February 4, and then a shot being fired towards a man in Blenheim Avenue, Holbrooks, at just before 9.30pm, but fortunately he was not injured.
