Robins tells players: Stop looking at social media

STARS CAN’T HANDLE STICK THEY GET ON-LINE, CLAIMS CITY BOSS

- By ANDY TURNER

MARK Robins has told his Coventry City players to stop looking at social media because they can’t handle the criticism they’re getting.

The Sky Blues boss believes the flak from message boards, Facebook and Twitter is adding to the anxiety in his team, particularly the forwards who have been missing chances to kill teams off in recent weeks.

“They are reading message boards or something because they seem to be taking something on board,” said the City manager.

“They have got to forget about that, not look at social media.

“I don’t know what’s happening but I can presume what’s happening because there’s a hideous place where people get stick. “So don’t look at it,” he advised. Asked if he’s told his players to stop looking, Robins said: “I’m telling them now.

“People can’t take criticism nowadays.

“It’s society with everything geared at treating people right, people making sure they are looked after.

“It’s a different world we’re living in and if people are taking stick they can’t handle it’s because that’s how we’re bringing people up these days, and it’s what we expect from society. You cannot then expect people to react in a way that’s foreign to everyone else in every other walk of life when they are getting stick.

“So don’t look at it because they can’t handle it yet,” he added. Robins would rather his players block out the criticism and concentrate their energy on the job in hand, trying to convert more goals from the many chances the team are creating.

“They have just got to take it and enjoy taking chances and getting in those positions,” he said. “They have got to get to a point where all right they are going to miss some chances but they’re going to score some as well.

“That’s where they have got to get to. They are clearly not there at the minute because they are just worried about everything.

“And because we’re talking about it, it gets put in the press and it becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy and it keeps coming true. But we’re trying to improve and we’re doing it in a way that we can only do at this football club.”

If people are taking stick they can’t handle it’s because that’s how we’re bringing people up. Mark Robins
