PLUS... WILLIS REVEALS CONTRACT TALKS

- By ANDY TURNER Sky Blues Reporter

JORDAN Willis has revealed that he’s had talks with Coventry City boss Mark Robins about his contract situation at the club.

The Sky Blues star will be a free agent come the summer, able to leave his home town side and attempt to further his career at a higher-placed club if he wishes.

Robins revealed recently that there was interested in the centrehalf on transfer deadline day.

League One leaders Luton Town and Championship Bristol City are understood to be admirers of the 24-year-old defender.

Robins, however, said two weeks ago that he hoped to sit down and discuss the defender’s future beyond the end of the season.

The situation had previously looked bleak regarding Willis and his fellow out of contract team-mate Lee Burge after the manager revealed “there is a clear message coming from their camps,” and adding, “...the silence is deafening.”

But there appeared to be a change in mood following the January inquiries into Willis’s availability. “There was interest in Jordan and he’s aware of that but he didn’t want to go, which is brilliant for us because he’s one of the top defenders in this division,” said Robins, speaking earlier this month.

“That’s not going to go unrecognised by other teams, so I am pleased to still have him in the building now the window is shut.

“From Jordan’s point of view we’re open to speaking to him about extending his stay, without a shadow of a doubt.”

Asked if Willis is open to a discussion about staying at his home town club, the manager added: “That’s down to Jordan and something we’ll deal with down the line.

“It’s not for now. We will just enjoy the last 16 games we have left and he will give everything he has got, as he has done, and catch up at the relevant time.”

However, when asked about his contract situation, Willis has now told the Telegraph that discussions have taken place, although he is remaining tight lipped about any possible outcome.

“I have had conversations with the manager but I can’t go into too much detail about that,” he said.

“I did turn down interest in January but Coventry is a big part of me as a player. I don’t want to say any more than that at this stage.”
