A FAMILY had a lucky escape after arsonists set fire to their front door.

Quick thinking from the family prevented the fire from spreading to the rest of the house before fire crews arrived.

There were young children inside the property at the time.

The attack happened on Goodman Way, Tile Hill at 2.30am on Wednesday.

Fire crews from both Canley and Coventry fire stations were sent to the scene.

A spokesman for Canley fire station said: “Someone poured petrol around the front door of a house.

“It is an ongoing investigation by police.

“We were called immediately by the occupiers, who were still up with children at the time.

“They threw water over it, and if it wasn’t for their quick thinking, it could have been a lot worse.

“The assailant set fire and ran off.

“An appliance from Canley and one from Coventry went to the scene.”

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “Police are investigating an arson attack after a front door was set alight in Goodman Way, Coventry just after 2.30am this morning. Fortunately there were no injuries and enquiries continue.
