THIS is the moment fire crews tackled a burning paramedic vehicle - at Coventry hospital

Firefighters from Binley were called to reports of a car fire outside University Hospital on Tuesday, February 19.

When they arrived, they found a fire in the engine bay of the BMW X5.

Last year more than a million BMWs, including X5s, were recalled worldwide due to a fire risk.

According to the Express, fires could be sparked by leaking fluids.

Some diesel vehicle coolant could leak from the exhaust gas recirculation module, which is part of the emissions reduction system.

The leak could combine with soot at high temperatures and cause a fire.

Around 280,00 diesel-engined cars in the UK are estimated to be affected.

It affected a number of models including examples of the3 Series,4 Series,5 Series,6 Series,X3,X4,X5, andX6, with both four and six-cylinder dieselengines.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Whilst parked outside University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire in the early hours of this morning, a small fire started under the bonnet of one of our rapid response vehicles.

“The officer was able to extinguish the fire quickly using a fire extinguisher.

“There were no injuries suffered as a result of the fire and there was no effect to the Trust’s operational response.”

The paramedic car fire was one of several incidents Binley crews attended.

A tweet from the crews on Wednesday morning said: “Busy night for our White Watch crews.

“RTC, High Rise, Bin fires and also assisting out colleagues from WMAS with a little fire of their own.”
