Record breaking sunshine

- By JAMES RODGER

THE balmy temperatures of the last few days mean we’re officially experiencing a heatwave.

Coventry has seen temperatures into double figures with the city basking in spring sushine.

Monday saw the hottest February day since records began, according to the Met Office.

Britons have been making the most of the spring-like February heatwave that has sent temperatures soaring exactly a year after the Beast from the East brought heavy snow and freezing cold.

Meanwhile meteorologists have been left stunned, with the BBC’s Tomasz Schafernaker calling the new record “utterly astonishing”.

But all good things come to an end and the nice weather is one of those.

Some forecasters claim the mild conditions will be replaced by wet and windy weather - with another blast of snow before winter finally ends.

From next week, it’ll feel much colder with strong winds expected to batter Britain’s coasts and heavy rain likely in many places.

The nice weather is expected to continue over the next two days with lots of sun and warm temperatures of 14C but by Thursday it’ll start feeling a lot colder during the day and night.

From then on there’s a lot of uncertainty in the forecast with some predicting more cloud, strong winds and heavy rain.

By the first weekend of March, Atlantic weather systems look more likely to bring very wet and windy weather across the Midlands.
