Going back to the policies of Attlee
YOUR correspondent Andy McDonald says that he would never vote for Jeremy Corbyn but would support a centre-left party (Letters, February 28).
This is a contradiction as Jeremy Corbyn does lead the UK’s principal centre-left party.
Since the hard right put Mrs Thatcher into power, the three main parties have lurched to the right.
This is why election agents from those parties openly claim that they are out of synch with their core supporters.
David Cameron knew that the Tories had to move back to their traditional one nation right of centre position (which Mrs May has undone).
Nick Clegg refused to accept that the Liberals had to move back to the centre politics of Lloyd George. This wiped out all the gains they had made since Joe Grimmond was leader. The “Tory wets” Blairites also refused to accept this, hence the re-emergence of the hard right in the form of UKIP, BNP, etc.
Thankfully Jeremy Corbyn recognised that core Labour supporters wanted the policies of Clem Attlee, the best Prime Minister of the 20th Century. Chris Youett

Plan will cause more pollution
HAS Coventry City Council lost the plot?
It is proposing to close Coundon Road at the railway crossing.
This will put more traffic onto the Holyhead Road and Radford Road. Traffic from Barker Butts Lane will have to use Moseley Avenue which will put children at risk going to Moseley School.
What about the shops on Barker Butts? They are also going to lose trade.
Apparently this is about pollution but there is going to be more pollution on the other roads. When were the council going to let the people who live around Barker Butts Lane etc know about this.
Come on, Coventry City Council do you really think this is going to work? I don’t think so.
