Chairman: Club looking at ‘number of options’ over stadium

-

COVENTRY City’s chairman Tim Fisher has revealed the club is exploring a “number of options” for a stadium to play at next season to ensure the club’s survival.

Until now, the club has insisted staying on at the Ricoh Arena is its “only option”.

But with the clock almost run down, Mr Fisher has admitted the club is actively looking at other venues.

Where those stadiums are has not been revealed.

The report of the accounts for the financial arm of the club - Sky Blue Sports and Leisure Limited stated that the club’s management “are exploring a number of options in relation to venues at which to host the football matches for the 2019-20 season”.

Commenting on those claims, Mr Fisher insisted the Ricoh was still their preferred option, but there was a duty to fans to consider other options for the club’s survival.

He said: “Our focus remains on agreeing a deal for next season at the Ricoh Arena, the stadium planned and built for the club, as we stated back in October and on many occasions since.

“This is best for the club, the fans and our community.

“While the current impasse remains, with Wasps choosing not to enter negotiations, the Management has a responsibility to the club and its future, and to its fans, to explore other options that could ensure the club’s survival if no agreement can be reached to remain at the Ricoh Arena.

“However, our focus remains on working to agree a deal to play at the Ricoh Arena.”

CCFC have just six games left to play at the Ricoh before their rent deal runs out in May.
