DIVING: British duo Grace Reid and Kat Torrance won bronze in the women’s threemetre synchro event at the Beijing leg of the Diving World Series yesterday.

Reid and Torrance battled for silver with Australian pair Anabelle Smith and Maddison Keeney but eventually had to settle for third, with China’s Shi Tingmao and Han Wan claiming gold.

Reid said: “Katherine and I are really, really pleased - we’ve been working really hard for the past two weeks in training and we’ve been progressing with each and every competition we’re doing. That was close to our personal best.”

Tom Daley and new partner Matty Lee matched their fourth-place finish from last week in the men’s 10m synchro with an improved points tally. European champions Eden Cheng and Lois Toulson were sixth in the women’s event.

There was disappointment for Jack Laugher and Dan Goodfellow in the men’s 3m synchro, with a failed dive in the final round seeing them slip from third to last.

“I’ve certainly never felt so ill. Pneumonia... you’ve been a knockout!”

Bruno, one of Britain’s most popular sportsmen, won the WBC heavyweight title at the fourth attempt when he beat American Oliver McCall at a packed Wembley in September 1995.

nCYCLING: Olympic champion sprinter Callum Skinner has announced his retirement from cycling at the age of 26.
