Robson’s set for tests on blood issue

ENGLAND scrum-half Dan Robson is in ‘good spirits’ as he faces three to four weeks of tests to tackle his blood clotting issue.

The Wasps player was withdrawn from the squad preparing to face Scotland in the Six Nations finale early last week due to ‘illness’.

This was later confirmed by Wasps and England Rugby to be a blood clotting issue in Robson’s leg as he was forced to sit out the 38-38 draw Twickenham.

Speaking for the first time since Robson’s issue arose, Wasps director of rugby Dai Young gave an update on the 27-year-old’s condition.

“It is quite rare and is something that has to be respected and looked after and obviously that’s a process he is in at this moment in time. It’s a bit of a shock, he hadn’t been feeling ill or anything like that.

“He’s fairly limited about what he can do at this moment in time so he is just going to tick over. He’s undergoing tests in the next three to four weeks then they will decide on the next course of action.”

Robson earned his first England cap as a replacement against France in round two of the Six Nations and was a try scorer against Italy when he again arrived from the bench with less than 20 minutes remaining.

He was an unused substitute against Ireland and Wales and was replaced in the squad by Ben Spencer, who earned his third international cap as a late replacement against Scotland.

Wasps’ international players return to the club this week ahead of Saturday’s trip to face Gloucester in the Gallagher Premiership but Robson will not be considered for selection.

Young added: “How long he is going to be out for?

“I don’t know is the honest answer.

“I think it’s fair to say we’re not going to see him for the next three to four weeks.”
