CROWD-PLEASER!
Boss praises FAN-tastic support after City beat Posh
MARK Robins has issued a big “thank you” to Coventry City’s travelling fans for the way they responded at Peterborough United.
A near 2,000-strong Sky Blue Army backed the side from the first minute until the last at London Road, helping the team to an impressive 2-1 victory over The Posh to push them to within a point and place of key playoff rivals Doncaster Rovers who currently occupy sixth place in League One.
The City boss had been critical of some supporters following the Ricoh Arena defeat to Burton Albion recently when he felt protests from the terraces about the club’s owners and on-going off-field concerns about he stadium affected the players’ performance. He said after
the 2-1 home defeat to the Brewers: “I think that there’s a frustration around the situation that then feeds from the terraces onto the pitch which we have got to guard against because it has an impact, it has a negative impact.
“Just stick together, just keep going.
“Keep feeding the positivity to the players and we’ll get better performances, better results.”
It was a completely different story at Peterborough on Saturday where the football took centre stage and there Amadou Bakayoko celebrates were few, if any, protest chants as the majority focused on the game in hand.
Goals from Amadou Bakayoko and Bright Enobakhare either side of the break handed City the full three points and sparked an outstanding second half display that had the fans enjoying ever minute of their away day.
“They were brilliant, absolutely brilliant because they focused on the football and were cheering the players on and kept it away, all the stuff that’s going on,” said Robins, who said he remains hopeful that City’s stadium issue gets sorted out.
“We hope that gets resolved and we have got to believe that’s going to happen and keep going because we are pretty close (to the play-offs).
“But I can’t thank them enough because I know that that is something that’s very emotive for everyone and they have kept it away and concentrated on the football, and that was brilliant.
“So thank you, keep it up!”
