BEST OF THE REST
GREAT BRITISH MENU BBC2, 8pm
THERE’S a tasty carrot of a prize dangled before the chefs in this series.
With a pop music theme, the chefs are vying for a place in the kitchen to cook at a star-studded banquet at the legendary Abbey Road Studios.
The brief? To create dishes that celebrate Britain’s extraordinary contribution to popular music, honouring stars of the music industry.
Of course they will have to strike the right chord with judges and experts first. In these first heats, three chefs must prepare starters and a fish course.
Restaurant owner and chef Ben Marks whips up a ‘Glass Onion’ dish, inspired by The Beatles track of the same name. Michelin-starred head chef Luke Selby cooks a British Invasion themed salad and Rock Star lobster. While executive chef Paul Walsh goes for a Waterloo Sunset fish dish, a nod to The Kinks, and the Oasis-inspired ‘What’s The Story Morning Dory?’.
It’s the biggest gig of their lives.
MUMS MAKE PORN Channel 4, 10pm
PORN used to be something found on the top shelf in a newsagent or hidden in bedrooms – now hardcore porn is available, for free, on any device. This means kids can turn to porn for their sex education, not the healthiest of lessons.
In this quite graphic series, five ordinary mums meet to investigate the realities of free online porn and the impact it’s having on their children’s generation.
Disgusted by what they see, they decide to make their own alternative porn film, addressing the issues that matter most to them. Then they will screen the film in front of industry experts, friends and family – not at all awkward.
This is not for the faint-hearted, with visits to porn sets and all the full frontal nudity that goes with it. At one point, mum-of-six Sarah Louise actually throws up.
But there’s a serious issue up for discussion here and it’s bound to get people talking.
