Campo is the centre of attention as Quins move confirmed

-

MICHELE Campagnaro’s heavily-rumoured move to Harlequins this summer has been confirmed.

The 26-year-old centre joined Wasps in November after his former club Exeter Chiefs released him from his contract by mutual consent.

Having made his debut against Saracens in December, the Italian has made only six subsequent appearances due to injuries and international duties.

He is unlikely to feature again for Wasps after breaking his foot against England in the Six Nations, which could rule him out for up to 12 weeks.

Wasps director of rugby Dai Young said: “We always knew that Campo was likely to only be staying till the end of the season and he’s helped out while a number of key players have been missing.

“It’s a shame we haven’t been able to see a lot of him in action due to injuries and international commitments, and his recent injury setback is frustrating for both Campo and us. We’d like to thank him for his services over the past few months and wish him all the best for the future.”

Young swooped to sign Campagnaro following the departure of Christian Wade, who retired in October to pursue a career in American Football. Young said at the time: “Michele’s versatility will be of benefit to the team throughout the season.”

But since the start of November, Campagnaro has made more international appearances (8) than club (7) with his last Wasps appearance coming in the 29-22 victory over Bristol Bears in mid-February.
