MOST young professional footballers head straight for the beach during the summer months, whether it be the fashionable Dubai or a party resort on the Med.

But not Coventry City’s latest signing

Josh Pask who, instead, opted for an enriching and humbling life experience helping those less fortune than himself.

The 21-year-old defender is a regular volunteer with a charity he helped set up with a group of fellow footballers and has just returned from Romania where he helped out at an orphanage.

“I’m with a charity called F3 – it’s a Christian charity,” said the player, who this week signed a three year deal with the Sky Blues after being released by West Ham United.

“A bunch of footballers run it, including myself. “We went out in Romania, just off the city of Cluj, to do some charity work, speak to the local people and help them out a bit.

“I’m hopefully looking to do some more of that in the future at various other places around the

world. It was a great time, and a very humbling experience as well.” Asked about his move to Coventry, he said: “I’m glad to be back and now I’m looking forward to pre-season. “I’m proper excited.

“I found out a few weeks ago. As soon as I found out they were interested in signing me, I couldn’t not take the offer.”

The versatile player who can play at centre-back, right-back and as a holding midfielder is convinced he’s joining a club with ambitions.

“I thought it was a great club,” he said.

“Obviously they were pushing for promotion but just missed out on it last year, so I was proper interested and glad I am here now.”

A ball playing defender, Pask has progressed through the West Ham United Academy where he has been since a small boy.

“It was great at West Ham,” he said.

“I was there for a long time, from the age of eight until now at 21. I feel like they helped me a lot and got me to the place I am today.”

The defender has experience of League One football from a loan spell at Gillingham, as well as a period at Dagenham and Redbridge, and he believes that will help him settle in at City.

He said: “I was at Gillingham and the season before I was at Dagenham as well. I’ve got a bit of experience playing in the league, men’s football, so it should help me.”

Asked what sort of qualities fans can expect from him, the 6ft 2 inch tall player said: “I’d describe myself as a technical player.”
