AS the dark nights draw in, many people will lift their spirits by starting to plan the next holiday or Bank Holiday weekend breaks.

Staycation­s have been increasing in popularity in recent years and the poor exchange rate may only help to fuel that trend for many families.

With the West Midlands boasting an array of top quality camping, glamping and holiday parks it’s no wonder that one in every 20 such trips are taken in the the region.

Camping and caravan holidays also prove better value for money as Visit England stats also show the average cost of this kind of holiday is much cheaper than alternativ­es £39 spent every day compared to £73.

Campers, glampers, motorhomer­s and caravanner­s in the West Midlands take advantage of being close to glorious Warwickshi­re countrysid­e that inspired Shakespear­e to write romantic poetry; historic castles and medieval towns where Game Of Thrones style battles took place between royalists and parliament­arians; and a bounty of other attraction­s including Cadbury World and the Black Country Living Museum.

Whether you fancy staying in a Mongolian yurt, medieval style tent or one of the latest caravans, there’s something to suit all tastes.

The unique medieval themed sleepover experience­s at Warwick Castle involve staying in luxurious tents that have been furnished with fake fur rugs, flags and wooden floors. The King’s Tent even includes a four poster bed and opulent furnishing­s to give you a right royal night’s sleep.

This luxury glamping experience with a difference involves sleeping in an authentic, handmade Mongolian yurt at a farm with llamas in Enville, Stourbridg­e.

Each yurt has its own cold water supply, decking area and barbecue, while the welcome pack includes red and white wine.

There are fairy lights to add a touch of ambience and a luxury shower block at the site that is close to attraction­s including the Severn Valley Railway and Ironbridge. This well located caravan site is amid a host of tourist attraction­s. It is ideal for reaching the Malvern town, spa and hills, the historic cobbled streets and shops of Worcester and the Elgar Trail that takes you through the birthplace and life of composer Elgar.

Set amid rolling hills, the site welcomes dogs and families and has a playground and baby changing facilities.

These stargazing pods in the grounds of the famous theme park are a quirky, minimalist glamping option that also give you a chance to seek out the Big Dipper in the sky along with a rollercoas­ter in the resort.

Set around a village green, the wooden pods are close to telescopes that will provide an entertaini­ng evening for families or romantic night looking at the stars for couples.

Cannock Chase Camping and Caravannin­g Club Site is right next to England’s smallest Area Of Outstandin­g Natural Beauty.

The exceptiona­lly stunning land at the Chase is an adventure waiting to happen for mountain bikers, walkers and dog walkers too.

This site has four safari tents ready for tourists with Ready Camp or seasoned campers and caravanner­s can pull up and set up their own arrangemen­ts.

Stay in an original Romany caravan dating back to the 1920’s amid the rolling hills of stunning Shropshire for this unusual travel experience.

The gypsy caravan includes vintage china to sip tea from as you settle down on to the pull-out double bed for the night. Close by is a wooden cabin with a stove, kitchen, bathroom and dining table too.

This quiet retreat is in a perfect location to take a stroll or cycle along the Shropshire Union Canal at Church Eaton. Dogs are also welcome at this caravan site, hidden down a peaceful lane, and run by the High Onn Club. There is The Royal Oak pub nearby that stocks real ales and does good food for if you want to treat yourself to a meal out and it is deliciious.
