Champion feeling for racer Ash

NUNEATON’S Ash Hand clinched the 2019 British GT4 Championsh­ip in an exciting race at Donington Park.

Hand and his co-driver Tom Canning, who have produced consistent and impressive performanc­es throughout the summer, drove a faultless race and the whole TF Sport team played their part in the pitstop and driver changeover­s.

After a hard fought season the two youngsters clinched the title by seven and a half points.

Free Practice One was used to set the car up for qualifying and race. Canning set a time good enough for fifth in class and 19th overall. Ash Hand

In Free Practice Two, Hand was fastest in class and 16th overall.

Qualifying was set with the combined times of both drivers with Hand setting the quicker time of the two.

Their times produced second in class and 20th position on the grid.

In a change to the norm Canning started the race and he drove with controlled pace and aggression.

At the changeover Hand took over in second place he now had to ensure he brought the car home in front of their title contenders and he did superbly as he played the long game, conceding his second place to finish third at the chequered flag.

In doing this he sealed the first ever GT4 for TF Sport.

Speaking after Ash said: “Everyone at TF Sport has earned this with me and Tom. The team has given us an awesome car all season.”

TF Sport Director Tom Ferrier added: “They are very young and super-aggressive and yet make very few mistakes. A flawless performanc­e from the pair of them.”
