FAMILY TREE (PEGI E) SWITCH

-

A BRILLIANTLY bonkers little platformer lands exclusively on the Switch this week.

Family Tree sees the colourful Mr and Mrs Fruits rescuing their babies from an evil sugar skull named Pedro.

An adorable mix of pinball and platforming, you make your way through the levels avoiding enemies, and using well-placed pots and ledges to your advantage.

For such a simple concept I had oodles of fun with this, from the studios of indie developer Infinite State Games – the creative minds behind 2016’s addictive Don’t Die, Mr Robot.

Even the storyline is loopy, with the baby fruits being sucked into a wormhole by the drum ‘n’ bassloving Pedro.

He scatters the little ones throughout the forest, which is why each new level starts at the bottom of a tree.

Using a ballistic arc, much like in Puzzle Bobble, to guide your little dude through the level, you collect the baby fruits along the way and return them home.

The soundtrack is surprisingly catchy, boasting dub, chiptuneesque drum ‘n bass and acid house vibes, it’s a proper earworm that you find yourself humming hours after you’ve quit playing.

Gameplay is frenetic, and the graphics are bright and quirky – the adorable fruits may just be smiley faces on a pastel circle, but they feel as if they have real character.

With more than 120 levels to play through it’s guaranteed to keep the kids – and yourself – busy for a good few hours.

And if playing on your own gets boring, you can switch to co-op mode and play with up to three others in endless party mode.

Be warned though, the sugarrush nature of the game can cause tantrums – especially when I told Mr M it was way past his bedtime.
