PLANS to build a new 120-bedroom hotel and a drive-thru McDonald’s in Coventry have been submitted.

If approved, the hotel and restaurant would be built a short distance away from the Ricoh Arena.

The proposal asks for permission to build the hotel and two storey drivethru restaurant, car parking spaces and associated vehicular access and landscaping on the site of the current car broker’s yard on Judds Lane, Foleshill.

According to the planning documents, the applicants say the development will help serve both City of Culture and Commonwealth Games visitors.

In the application, it reads: “In terms of the hotel element, this application seeks to provide a 120-bed hotel which will comprise a single 6 storey building.

“At ground floor level will be located the reception, as well as a cafe, conferencing area and staff back of house area, while the bedrooms will be located within the five storeys above.

“Parking provision of 65 spaces will be provided for the hotel and 30 spaces for the McDonalds restaurant.

“The drive-thru element will comprise a two-storey building to the eastern portion of the site.”

Each floor of the hotel would consist of 24 bedrooms, and in total, five of the rooms would be wheelchair compliant.

Of the parking spaces, five would be marked as disabled access spaces, and there is also set to be electric charging points in both car parks.

Documents also reveal that the proposal would result in the creation of 68 jobs.

At this time it is not known who the hotel operator is.

In the application, agents Newsteer, who are acting on behalf of Rowley Construction & Property Services Limited, argue that this project would result in “102 person years of employment and to generate £4.9million in economic output.

“The priority for our client is to deliver a hotel on the Site by Q4 2020 in preparation of the forthcoming Coventry UK City of Culture in 2021 and the Birmingham Commonwealth Games in 2022.”

The public consultation ends on October 10, and the application can be viewed and commented on at http:// planning.coventry.gov.uk.

A decision on the application is expected on November 27.
