THE APPRENTICE BBC 1, 9pm

- Lottie’s suggestion for a team name fails to launch Ryan-Mark’s idea is not so fabulous

LORD SUGAR’S apprentices have already been on a wild elephant chase in South Africa and created inedible ice lollies. It’s a wonder they can get themselves dressed in the morning, let alone compete for a £250,000 investment.

However, blasting all expectations, the 14 remaining candidates manage to get from bed hair to taxi-ready in just 20 minutes. This week they are off to London’s Cambridge Theatre,

home to Matilda the Musical, where the Lord tells them they need to be like the girl “who had a sharp mind and a vivid imagination”.

The challenge is to design a toy for six to eight year olds, along with an online promotional video. Then they must pitch the toy to major retailers.

Before that, it’s what we’ve all been waiting for – the men and women are mixed up and team names must be decided.

“Team Fabulous!” suggests Ryan-Mark, who is immediately shot down.

Meanwhile in another room, Lottie pushes her idea – Polaris, because it was the name of a missile which had direction and made a large impact.

And yes, she was being deadly serious.

Ridiculous names thankfully vetoed, Riyonn leads Unison, while Pamela leads Empower.

“Just watch and learn girls,” says Thomas, as all the girls laugh politely, while no doubt wanting to punch him in the face.

What follows is a tense debate over everything from slime to unicorns, and a cringey video. “I’m confused, it doesn’t make sense,” says one kid in the toy focus group later on.

Fun and games, it certainly is not...
