STUDENTS set to sit their GCSE’s at a Coventry school this year have received a good luck message from an unlikely source - football legend David Beckham.

Pupils from Ernesford Grange Community Academy were stunned to see the former England captain appear on the screen at an assembly earlier this month as the video message was played.

The 44-year-old icon gave pupils at the Academy a motivational pep talk as they embark on a big year of schooling.

In the video, Beckham said: “This is a message for all the students at Ernesford Year 11, I know you’ve got a big few months coming up, so I just want to say we believe in you, try hard, and all you can do is your best so good luck.”

The message from David Beckham isn’t the only motivation that the pupils are set to receive with a full video featuring messages from other celebrities which was set to be shown to pupils yesterday.

Beckham’s message came as the school unveiled their theme for the year - belief.

As part of this, staff at the school contacted a number of celebrities both local and from afar, in an attempt to put together a motivational video for the pupils.

But just how did a school in Coventry manage to get a video message from David Beckham?

Assistant Headteacher Kane Hudson explained.

Speaking to the Telegraph, he said: “The theme for this school year is belief, so we’ve been recording videos of our staff telling the pupils that we believe in them, and we had members of the local community deliver the same message.

“Amy Bennett, the head of Humber house had the idea to try and get messages from celebrities.

“She messaged loads of celebrities on Instagram, but we didn’t really expect to hear back from David Beckham - we just thought we’d try.

“He actually took the time to speak with us and was interested in finding out about what we were up to.

“The video has now gone viral, and of course, our students are loving it.”
