AN RSPCA officer rescued a beautiful Short-eared owl at the Lower Precinct Shopping Centre in Coventry.

The officer took to twitter to explain that the owl was now safe.

They are unsure as to how the bird ended up in the centre, but they say it is possible that she flew off track.

Fireworks may have been the cause of this, as the loud noises can cause animals to become confused.

The owl has now been taken to the RSPCA centre at Stapeley Grange in Cheshire.

I’ve just rescued this beautiful Short-eared Owl from @ LowerPrecinct shopping centre in Coventry! Who knows how she’s ended up in there but at least she’s safe now. She may have been frightened off track due to the fireworks loud this yr! According to the RSPB, the Short-eared-owl is a protected species under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.

They have mottled brown bodies and pale under-wings and distinctive yellow eyes.

They hunt during the day and during the winter the UK sees an influx of the birds from Scandinavia and Russia.

This is not the only case of animal antics in the area recently, with fire crews rescuing a distressed cow from a Hatton canal last month.

It had been in the canal for an hour before a team came out to save it. Back in 2018, officers found a turtle basking by the water of the Coventry Canal during the summer.

He was found caked in mud and with some scales missing.

Since being found, he was placed in a Reptile Trust.

If you would like to report cruelty or an animal in distress, you can call the RSPCA on 03001 234999.
