Our Health Service deserves better
WE all read a lot about the state of the NHS, but it’s only when you experience it with your loved ones, that you get a true sense of its current condition.
My mum recently spent time in UHCW and it was a tough ordeal for her and her family. First stopping with her in the morning in A&E waiting for a place on a ward was hard enough.
Watching A&E filling up with self-inflicted drunks while my frail and elderly mother waited for a bed added insult to injury. Something surely has to be done to take the strain off A&E.
She progressed to a ward but desperately understaffed often ringing a bell for attention was a frustrating ordeal. Whilst the staff did their best they were continually under stress.
If this ward is typical there are just not enough nurses.
With my mother’s condition good nutrition was very important.
We ensured my mum was fed properly as it seemed the NHS was incapable of doing so.
My family fought to ensure mum had good healthcare.
Some patients don’t have such champions. Our Health Service deserves better.

Calm debates please for important matters
PARLIAMENT has seen turbulent times recently and some people have commented that the loquacious style of Mr John Bercow as Speaker has not helped.
I hope that the election of Sir Lindsay Hoyle as his replacement will calm the debates. Such important matters as Brexit, the NHS, Social Security and Defence should be discussed in a calm, factual and polite manner. Cllr David Skinner
