Strike for Under-23s puts Max back on track

-

MARK Robins insists Max Biamou has to ‘earn the right’ to get back in his Coventry City side after missing three games through suspension.

And the popular Sky Blues striker has already gone some way to doing that by scoring in the Under-23s, to take his strike rate to seven in his last five games for the first team and development side.

Biamou gave the 23s the lead in yesterday’s game against the U’s, in which Jamie Allen added a second before the break and then Gervane Kastaneer hit a third in a 3-1 win, during which City were reduced to ten men when Morgan Williams was sent off.

The in-form 29-year-old Biamou has been serving his ban for a straight red card against Accrington Stanley.

Robins says the sending off has “cost” the team over the last three games when City have been forced to play with just one striker, Amadou Bakayoko.

Saturday saw the Sky Blues suffer for a lack of muscular attacking options from the bench as they allowed Sunderland back into the game to claim a late point.

“I need options but I think Baka worked his socks off,” said Robins. “But now we have Max back and he has to earn the right to get back in.

“So far he has looked threatening in front of goal.

“So it’s a bonus getting him back because we have got tough games coming up.”

City face back-to-back games against promotion favourites Ipswich Town at St Andrew’s in the FA Cup and league, with a trip to MK Dons in the EFL Trophy sandwiched in between.
