Top effort from Droobers

CLUB members from Coventry-based Octavian Droobers produced great performanc­es last weekend.

The campus at Nottingham University and High Fields Park was the venue for an urban race organised by Nottingham Orienteeri­ng Club.

A number of Droobers competed well coming in the top ten in their age classes including Nathan Lawson who won the Men’s Open course taking 49.40mins and Kin Wai Lee who was seventh in 59.59mins.

David Lawson won the Men’s Super Vet course in 39.01mins and Andy Emmerson came fourth in 43.37mins.

Richard Gardner won the Men’s Ultra Vet course in 32.36mins, Keith Willdig was sixth in 38.29mins, Mike Hampton eighth in 40.06mins and Peter Carey ninth in 40.15mins.

Ka Man Leung was second on the Women’s Open course in 54.15mins. Jill Emmerson was third in 41.08mins, Sheila Carey fifth in 43.21mins and Margaret Willdig ninth in 49.06mins on the Women’s Super Vet course. Karin Kirk was fifth on the Women’s Ultra Vet course in 39.22mins.

At Bethecar Moor in the Lake District Matthew Elkington was second in 51.54mins on the Brown course and Alistair Landels was 14th in 68.38mins.

For the juniors, Adam Landels was third on the Orange course in 33.15mins and Max Straube-Roth eighth in 37.56mins.

The middle distance event at Brimham Rocks, North Yorkshire, featured huge rocks and crags and was likened to bouldering. Bruce Bryant was fifth on the Blue course in 48.38mins - as was Liz Phillips on the Green course taking 51.12mins.
