Thunder to whip up a snow storm

- MARTIN HUTCHINSON

OVER the years Thunder’s Christmas shows have resulted in a number of excellent live albums.

This year’s format will comprise two sets. The first will be a sit down acoustic performance – recalling the recent tour dates in support of the successful Please Remain Seated album – whilst the second set will be altogether more raucous and fully electric.

The band promise, as ever, that the setlist will feature an eclectic festive selection box of hits, rarities and covers.

Lead singer Danny Bowes says: “It’s very different from the usual shows. It’s the last thing we do for the year and it’s our Christmas party. We play covers and try to do different ones every year and we encourage the audience to join in and dress up.

“The first set will be ‘softer’ versions of some of the songs, but it builds and gets bigger during the set. Last year, we did The Chain by Fleetwood Mac to end the first half.

“Then in the second half we go all out. We know it’s gonna be great fun and when the show ends there’s snow everywhere and all the fans love it. If you miss out, Yule be sorry.”

The band have just announced an arena tour for next year (the NEC’s Resorts World Arena on November 20) and there’s a new album on the way. There are other things lined up for 2020, too.

“We’re doing the Monsters of Rock cruise in Florida and Luke [Morley] and I are doing the Rock Classics in Germany – Alice Cooper is headlining.”

The Thunder Christmas show is at Birmingham Academy on December 20.
