COVENTRY City are leading the race to sign Cheltenham Town midfielder Aaron EvansHarriott, according to reports.

Premier League Leicester City and Championship club Barnsley are also known to have been monitoring the 17-year-old this season.

But the first-year scholar looks set to join the League One Sky Blues in January, according to reports.

Evans-Harriott became the youngest player to represent the Robins in the Football League era when he went on as a substitute in the 85th minute of the Leasing.com Trophy group stage win over West Ham United Under-21s on October 8.

At 17 years and 22 days, he beat Kyle Haynes’ record (17 years, 85 days), although Haynes remains the youngest to appear in a Football League fixture for Cheltenham.

The all-time club record is held by Simon Goodwin, who was 16 and 245 days when he appeared as an 84th minute substitute against Burton Albion in the Southern League Premier Division.

Evans-Harriott, who has represented Wales at Under-15 level, has been with Cheltenham since under-nines.

He is widely known as ‘Bubbles’, a nickname he acquired at the age of 11.

He was promoted to the next age group up and midfielder Tom Chamberlain, who has also made his first-team debut this season, asked his name.

The first part of his name is pronounced ‘Air’ (Welsh) and the age group already had Aaron Basford, so Chamberlain observed the new lad’s name sounded like chocolate bar Aero and Bubbles stuck instantly.
