Cov look for home help

- By NIALL JACKSON

COVENTRY are determined to secure a home quarter-final tie in the Championship Cup, says fly-half Will Maisey.

The 27-year-old Cov star came off the bench in the 37-12 victory at Bedford Blues that secured a Championship Cup last-eight spot for the Blue and Whites.

A win over Ealing in London this weekend will give Coventry the prospect of a home tie in the next round.

And Maisey said: “We want a home quarter-final, especially for the fans that support us every week and I’m sure they’d enjoy it. We’re going to have to do the business on Saturday.

“We’ve got to go there and be clinical this time. We have to go there and take our chances. If we do that, I am sure we can come away with a positive result. “For us the only pressure we put on is the pressure we create for ourselves as a group. We go out there and we look to perform every week.

“If we carry our momentum from last week into this weekend’s fixture, I am sure we can do the business.”

Rotation has been the name of the game from Rowland Winter and his coaching staff in the last 14 days, with players like Ben Adams, who is currently on a dual-registration agreement with Coventry and National League One side Cambridge, coming back into the fold last weekend against Bedford Blues.

Maisey is pleased to see people being given the opportunity to prove their worth, with the clear competition being there for all to see.

He added: “The last two weeks have shown just how close the squad is, in terms of competition.

“Anyone who has thrown on the Coventry shirt has done a good job and it just shows how we’re all pushing each other.

“It is tough, but at the same time it is very enjoyable,” he added.
