Imps win was just what we needed – Westbrooke

-

> FROM BACK PAGE we knew we had to turn up and bring a lot more to the game and I think we did that.

“First half we showed our dominance on the ball, created a lot of chances and the message at half time was to just get that second goal and kill the game off, but we didn’t do that and we knew then they we’re going to put more pressure on us.

“I think we dealt with it well, they had a string of corners and pressure but we stood up to that and that’s what you have to do if you want to be towards the top come the end of the season.

“We held them for the majority of the second half and defended on the edge of their box and that’s not where they want to be and we did well and it’s good to get a clean sheet as well.”

City showed plenty of attacking threat too, with Westbrooke revealing City had adopted a shooton-sight policy to breach the Lincoln rearguard.

“In past games we’ve been trying to score the perfect goal in behind teams, and that’s what we want, to get in behind teams and get them running back to their goal and try and score,” he added.

“But when teams like Lincoln come up against us and they want to sit back and defend then we’re going to have to take shots from the edge of the box so that they come out to us and then we can get in behind.

“We’ve been working on getting more bodies in the box and I think at times Matty Godden was on his own there and then it’s quite hard for whoever’s crossing to just pick one person out, so we just want to get more bodies in there and see what can happen.

“Kells (Liam Kelly) has had the shot and the keeper’s saved it up in the air and I was just there to take a shot and luckily for me it went in.”
