SEVERN Trent bosses have apologised for the chaos caused by roadworks in Nuneaton - and pledged to get them completed as soon as possible.

They have issued a statement in regards to the gridlocked the town suffered as a result of roadworks on Heath End Road.

The traffic lights, opposite the George Eliot Hospital, caused chaos along the main road which then had a knockon effect on the A444, Greenmoor Road and College Street.

Social media reports suggest that motorists spent an hour stuck in traffic on the A444 and people struggled to access and leave the hospital.

A Severn Trent spokesperson said: “We’re really sorry for the disruption to anyone caused by our essential repairs to one of our water pipes on Heath End Road.

“It will be our priority to complete all work quickly, and get the road fully reopened again as soon as we can.”

The roadworks were already having an impact at 7am yesterday with traffic building on Heath End Road, tailing back towards the Glendale Estate.

Stagecoach Midlands has also warned that services in the area may be hit by the roadworks.

Earlier in the year we warned these roadworks were due to take place and said delays were to be expected.

According to Warwickshire County Council’s roadworks map the Severn Trent works are set to continue until Friday.

Signs have appeared to show that Heath End Roadwhich

links the west side of town to the town centre but also to the A444 - is going to be resurfaced.

The key commuter route which is heavily used is peppered with potholes bringing misery to motorists. Pot holes and wear and tear will be fixed when a large section of theroad, from its junction with Greenmoor Road to The Raywoods, is resurfaced next month.
