Traffic lights cause more rush hour chaos

-

HIGHWAYS bosses have apologised for the A444 rush-hour chaos caused by faulty traffic lights on the M6 island.

Motorists reported their usual five minute journey took an hour as a result of traffic lights being out of sequence.

It was not just those on the A444 who suffered, as it also caused tailbacks into Bedworth and Nuneaton.

Stagecoach bus services were also hit by the faulty lights.

Now chiefs at

Warwickshire County Council have issued an apology to all those caught up in the gridlock yesterday morning.

The Telegraph contacted Shire Hall and a spokesman said: “We apologise for the disruption caused by the fault at the traffic signals on the A444 on the approach to the M6 Jn3 this morning (Thursday 16 January) and any delays this may have caused for drivers.

“An engineer was called to investigate the issue and arrived at the location at 8.30am, with the lights back to normal working order by approximately 9.30am.

“We are currently still investigating this issue to determine the precise cause of the fault which is still unknown at this time.”

It is not the first time that out-of-sequence lights at the island have caused misery for motorists. On Armistice Day last year, motorists were stuck for more than an hour on the A444 on both sides of the island due to a fault on the lights. And in August last year, highways bosses had to call out engineers to to fix the malfunctioning traffic lights at the M6 island after rush hour chaos on the A444.

Traffic was then backed up as far as the Griff roundabout as a result of the problems with the traffic lights at the island, which links the A444 with the M6 north and south as well as Coventry.
