Not many better than Callum – McSheffrey

-

FORMER Coventry City favourite Gary McSheffrey has heaped praise on Sky Blues’ loan star Callum O’Hare.

Asked how good he thinks O’Hare is and how far he can go in the game, McSheffrey said: “I saw him a few times at Carlisle last year and I was really impressed with him.

“I’m pretty sure Doncaster were interested in him but in terms of a footballing move the likes of Donny and

Coventry, who are footballing teams, are perfect for him because he likes to get the ball on the floor and play. He’s a technician on the ball.”

He added: “Nowadays it’s difficult to say whether a player can go all the way but if he plays in a team where they play to his strengths and fits in then, technically, there aren’t many better in the division. You could say he’s got a chance but nowadays so many kids don’t make it to the top because they’re either not physically ready or the team doesn’t play to the style that he’s been developed to.

“Also the Premier League clubs can go and buy world class players but you’d like to think that Dean Smith is the type of manager to put a good young English player in his team.”

As for the prospect of next week’s fourth round tie between his two former clubs Sky Blues and Birmingham City, he said: “It’s crazy. “I wonder if they had the conversation when they agreed to go there in the summer. It’s so strange, so bizarre for Coventry to be the home team at St Andrew’s. I don’t think many

Birmingham fans will have ever sat in the away end there.

“But then if there’s a replay then it’s perfect for Coventry as an away game.

“The Tilton End is a big thing for the Blues fans so not getting that might annoy a few. But it has all the ingredients for a classic cup tie and hopefully it will be a sell out.”

He added: “It will be a good test for both sides. Blues will have been watching on Tuesday night and they will know they will be playing against a proper team with good players, but Birmingham are decent on their day.

“In recent seasons they’ve been a team that can physically grind out wins. We all know about Lukas Jutkievicz who has been great for them for a few seasons now, and I feel you look at Coventry and say they have got tidier footballers in the team. But obviously you look at Birmingham who are the Championship club with probably a more ruthless streak and more experience.”

If he plays in a team where they play to his strengths and fits in then, technically, there aren’t many better in the division.
