Disappointed at plan for new city station

-

WELL it’s no surprise to me that the new station entrance is expected to go over budget which could mean the loss of platform 5.

In my opinion the whole design of the building is a disgrace and that is causing the problem. Our city planning department should never have passed the proposal.

For instance the new footbridge will NOT even have escalators. Can you think of any new public transport hub where people are supposed to climb stairs with or without luggage?

Also, there is no need to provide parking on top of the station building in the first place as there is plenty of space on the other side of Warwick Road to do that.

Surely offices above the station building would be more suitable for revenue return and less of a pollution concern.

Considering Coventry is a fast growing city the whole design has a very “small town” feel about it . A better design would have been to cover completely the existing station platforms with a curved clear roof extended to Warwick Road bridge with a new passenger entrance on the bridge. It would look and feel like a true railway station of a large city. Graham Smith, Coventry

Did country star sing in Coventry?

AS one not on social media I am hoping one of your readers can confirm something for me.

The question is did top American country music singer Loretta Lynn appear live at the Paris cinema in Gosford Steet decades ago and if not who was it? She had been the star of the film Coal Miner’s Daughter and was recently seen attending the Country Music Association awards ceremony on TV.

Did any of your readers remember this live appearance on stage at the Paris and was it a one off?

B Morton, Coventry.
