- By MADELEINE CLARK News Reporter

A POPULAR bar in Coventry has shocked customers by announcing it is “currently closed”.

Drapers’ Bar & Kitchen, on Earl Street, announced the closure on social media.

The post on the business’ Facebook page said the closure was “beyond the management’s control”. Although they have not stated in the post that the closure is long term, a reply to a comment from the businesses page states: “Seems pretty permanent”.

The full message read: “Dear Customer,

“Due to circumstances beyond the management’s control the premises are currently closed.

“For queries regarding existing bookings or other matters please contact Opus Business Services on 01908 087220.”

The Telegraph has contacted Opus Business Services for comment regarding the closure.

It seems the people of Coventry are upset to hear of the closure of Drapers’ Bar & Kitchen, with some comments on the post below:

Sean Graham said: “Drapers’ and Browns’ have always been the cornerstone of alternative and arts based culture in Coventry... Praying that this isn’t permanent, especially as it should be at the beating heart of our 2021 year”

Neil Seeley said: “This is terrible news! The city is full of generic bland places now, unique individual spots like Drapers make this city what it is.”

Food Covolution said: “So sad for everyone who worked there, and for Coventry, which has lost a fantastic venue. Just hope it will re-open soon.”

Rachael Kelly said: “Wow! 25years that bar has been operating... very sad”

Michael Dryburgh said: “Gutted, we just moved our comedy night to Drapers three months ago and they were so helpful and supportive.”
