Robins’ men four-tunate insists Joey

JOEY Barton was disappointed that his Fleetwood Town side failed to take maximum points off “a team like Coventry” after the two sides played out a drab, goalless draw on the Lancashire coast.

In fact, the Cod Army boss believes his side should have taken at least four off the Sky Blues over the course of their two games in the league – Mark Robins’ men having beaten them 2-1 at St Andrew’s back in October.

The stats from the latest encounter reflected a poor game played in dreadful wind battering conditions, and in which both sides managed just two efforts on target to test the goalkeepers.

Coventry boss Robins, meanwhile, was left fuming after his side failed to get what he called a “nailed on” penalty when Callum O’Hare was barged over in the box in the dying minutes.

“Every point in this division matters and it’s not a bad point against Coventry,” Barton said.

“It’s a little bit frustrating because we’ve played Coventry twice this season and had good spells in both games, but we’ve only taken one point off a team who are in and around us.

“It’s more disappointing because we’ve got the quality to take at least four points from teams like Coventry, but instead we’ve only managed to get one this season.”

He added: “It was a really good performance, that’s the main thing, and we’ve got backto-back clean sheets for the first time this season against a free-scoring and very exciting and attacking Coventry side.

“I thought we were very good and in the ascendancy for most of the game.

“Obviously they’re a good team and they were always going to have spells in the game and make chances, but we coped well. But when you look at the weight of chances and the quality of chances we created, there was only one side that probably deserved to win the game.”

Town’s only two chances on target fell to wily striker Ched Evans who had a first-half header denied by a decent reaction save from Marko Marosi who thwarted the centre-forward a second time after the break with an out-stretched boot.

“It’s just frustrating that it’s another game where we can’t convert a close game into wins,” said Barton.
