And there is now the opportunity to book swimming lessons at the centre, for when the day does arrive.
The Alan Higgs Centre offers lessons for children and adults, which is known as the Aquarius Schools Swim School.
Private lessons will also be offered, however these are designed for confident swimmers who can do continuous laps.
Lessons will take place everyday from 4pm to 6pm, from Stage 1 upwards.
If you would like to enrol for lessons at the Alan Higgs Centre, you can head to the reception desk.
Complete the enrolment and direct debit forms.
The centre will host a new 50m super-sized swimming pool.
