Civic hall would cost us too much money

-

ONCE again the idea of a civic hall surfaces, something which will cost a great deal to build and run (letters Feb 13).

To my knowledge IKEA owns the building it currently occupies. How much would they want for it before all other costs are considered?

We lost our Hippodrome because attendances were poor and our two theatres rarely run to full houses. Now I know I’m a miserable git who finds today’s entertainment rotten value for money but I appreciate that there are those that love it, so it is with all our interests at heart that I suggest they continue to travel in search of it.

It is much cheaper than subsidising a civic hall as a taxpayer. Remember, where public money is up for grabs contractors think of a number, double it and then find ‘unexpected problems’ that need more money. Richard Allen, Coventry

Cut to rugby funding is a massive blow

THE outrageous decision by the RFU to cut funding of the Championship by 50% from next season is a huge blow to Coventry RFC and all of the other clubs in the division. It has confirmed what I have long thought, which is that all the RFU really cares about is money, the national team and the Premiership and all of the other clubs in the country can get forget about it. From Coventry’s perspective, the RFU’s swingeing cut means that plans to expand the Butts Park Arena will most likely now have to go on the backburner and the hugely valuable community work done by the club all over the city may also be affected which is truly sad and unfortunate.

It has been made clear by their cruel actions that the RFU regards the Championship with disdain. Paul Sheehan, Coventry
