Popular city centre cafe to close until 2021

MOVE DUE TO RENOVATIONS AT THE CATHEDRAL

- By BEN ECCLESTON

A POPULAR cafe in Coventry is set to close its doors for 10 months meaning it will be shut until 2021.

Renovations at Coventry Cathedral mean that the Rising Cafe, based at the city’s famous landmark, will shut up shop for quite some time as of February 29.

And with the closing date edging ever nearer, customers are urged to pop in one last time before the end of February for a final cuppa or a cake in 2020.

However, there could be a potential break for customers sad to see it close for so long.

A spokesman for the store posted on Facebook saying they are “eagerly looking for other premises nearby” and will keep customers updated.

In a Facebook post, Rising Cafe said: “ATTENTION ALL Rising Cafe CUSTOMERS!! WE’RE CLOSING FOR 10 MONTHS!!

“Due to renovations at Coventry

Cathedral, we have only just learned that from Sunday, March 1st - two weeks from now - we must CLOSE the Rising Cafe until 2021.

“We will sadly miss all of you the rest of 2020... but PLEASE be sure to stop in for a coffee, cake or lunch on or before our last trading day of Saturday, 29 February. “PLEASE BE SURE TO USE ANY Rising Cafe GIFT CARDS you may have by Saturday, February 29th. “Our staff wish you a grateful farewell for the rest of 2020! Thanks for your loyal support of our charitable work at Betel UK.”

The dining spot serves up home-baked goods and classic dishes - and is proving extremely popular with city food lovers. Even Prince William and wife Kate were taken their for a bite to eat when they last came to the city. The cafe has 4.5 stars out of five on Tripadvisor, based on 783 reviews.

Out of those, 611 rate it as excellent.

Some of the most recent reviews rave about the food and atmosphere.

The surroundings are vintage in style and the staff were all so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The food was to a very high standard and we’ll certainly be visiting again soon. I would highly recommend!”
