Hotel shuts its doors

COOMBE Abbey Hotel has closed “with a heavy heart” due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The hotel, which is owned by Coventry City Council, closed from 10am on Tuesday, March 24, alongside the cafe in the park.

The park itself remains open for exercise, but a spokesman stressed people should stay at least two metres apart. The hotel is in line to reopen on May 4.

Measures have been implemented in line with government advice to combat the Covid-19 outbreak, as much of the UK has been told to stay at home apart from key workers.

In a statement, a spokesman for the hotel added: “The health and welfare of our staff and guests has always been, and will always be, our main priority and we appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding at what will be a difficult time for the country. We would like to apologise to everyone impacted by the measure, and we will, of course, be monitoring the situation on a daily basis and keep everyone informed of any changes on our website and social media channels.

“We would like to say thank you to all of the support we have had from our customers over the past few weeks, it has been greatly appreciated.

“We look forward to returning stronger than ever and to welcoming everyone back in due course and until that time, please take care.”

Coombe Abbey Hotel was purchased by the city council in 2017 for a reported £11 million as it was seen as a way to bring in revenue to the authority.
