BEST OF THE REST

-

THE REPAIR SHOP BBC1, 8pm

IF you haven’t already seen this show about a place dubbed “the workshop of dreams”, you’re missing out.

Family heirlooms and much-loved treasures are restored to their former glory by a team of craftsmen and women – and it all gets a bit emotional.

In this instalment, customer Liz brings Lucia Scalisi a wartime painting of her mother Alice when she was 19. Liz’s father was at war and traded a bar of chocolate with an artist to paint the portrait from a photo.

“It’s a love story wrapped up in a painting,” says Liz. But can Lucia remove the many speckles and marks?

Meanwhile, there’s another wartime story about invading German officers and a chair that has just about survived.

Elsewhere, someone brings in a stained glass window packaged up in a small box – which doesn’t bode well.

And a broken old musical box bought in the 1900s is in need of some TLC.

MASTERCHEF BBC1, 9pm

IN uncertain times, you can rely on the unwavering foodie duo that is Gregg Wallace and John Torode. The world has changed, but Masterchef goes on oblivious, reaching Knockout Week as we hurtle towards the final.

By the end of this week only the best 10 cooks will remain – and you thought you had enough to worry about...

Tonight, the second group of eight amateurs returns to win the chance to experience the pressure of a professional kitchen.

They must cook a dish that they would have on the menu of their own restaurant, pop-up or feature in their cookbook. After this challenge, three of them will be going home.

The remaining five head to Manchester to cook lunch for diners in the flagship restaurant of 2015 Masterchef Champion Simon Wood.

But only the best will make it through to the final challenge and the chance to become a semi finalist. You could cut the tension with a knife.
