Powell: New Boro spell is a possibility

-

NUNEATON Borough winger Callum Powell has not ruled out a second stint with the club next season but admits it’s too early for any players to decide their futures.

Powell enjoyed a strong campaign with Nuneaton, scoring 14 times and creating a host of assists before the season was curtailed.

His form even earned him a trial with Yeovil Town and he said: “It’s so frustrating for me.

“I worked so hard in pre-season to make sure I was fit, strong and healthy. I worked on my end product and shooting and I felt it really paid off during the season.

“I have always been considered someone who is sharp and exciting to watch but people questioned my end product.

“Although I am still not the finished article, I felt I did find more consistency on that score.

“I proved what I was capable of with 14 goals and 15 assists, and there were 12 games still to go.

“I’m working hard now ready to go again and hopefully I’ll be an even better player next season.”

Whether that will be with Nuneaton remains to be seen but Powell said: “I have enjoyed it at Boro.

“I thought we had a good group and we were gelling as the season went on. I still felt we could get in the play-offs.

“They were great lads, great fans and it was a good set-up. I’m not sure what will happen next season. I think it’s too early for anyone to say and no one really knows where they stand.

“When thing settle down I’m sure I’ll be chatting with Jimmy (Ginnelly). I don’t know when there will be conversations but all I can say is I’ve enjoyed it at Nuneaton this season. I think the main thing for all of us right now is to just stay safe, look after family and do the right things.”

Powell, meanwhile, says he has real sympathy for the likes of Peterborough Sports, Tamworth, Bromsgrove and Royston after the FA Council’s ruling to null and void the campaign. And while Boro were prevented from a possible play-off spot by the decision to expunge all results, Powell said the ruling was even harsher for the Lambs.

“It’s tough for them,” he said. “If we had been in Tamworth’s situation, I’d be gutted.”
