RUGBY AWARDS UP AND RUNNING AGAIN
THE 2019/20 rugby season will forever be remembered as one which drew to a premature conclusion due to the coronavirus pandemic – but that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate what was achieved.
For the majority of Coventry and Warwickshire clubs, more than 80 per cent of the campaign was concluded before play was suspended and ultimately cancelled.
So, for a third consecutive season we will be holding the Coventry Telegraph Rugby Awards.
We are seeking nominations for the following awards
■ Coach of the Year
■ Clubperson of the Year
■ Newcomer of the Year
■ Player of the Year
■ Team of the Year Anybody can nominate, just send an email to robert.bridge@ reachplc.com with the subject field Telegraph Rugby awards, and specifying names, clubs, positions and an explanation as to why you have nominated this person/ persons.
Emails without the explanation will not be considered. We are also seeking nominations for our Coventry Telegraph team of the year.
Here, we ask again for nominations from clubs from level five (ie Nuneaton, Broadstreet) down to level 10 (ie Keresley, Rugby Welsh).
Anyone can nominate as many players as they like.
But please include names, positions, club they play for and why you nominated them.
If you have a photograph of the player, please attach that.
The team of the year is open to male and female players, but only at senior level (not age grade). Players must either play for a club in Coventry and Warwickshire area or live in the same areas.
The Telegraph’s rugby writer Bobby Bridge said: “For the past two seasons we have run the awards as a live blog on our website and we saw more than 5,000 people tune in and read our content last year.
“It’s a chance to celebrate the achievements of rugby clubs, players, clubmen and women, coaches and everyone who makes our many fantastic clubs tick. We’re blessed to have so many within our readership.
“So it’s over to the public now to get their nominations in so we can begin the process of deciding the winners! Make sure your club does not miss out!”
The Coventry Telegraph Rugby Awards are not affiliated to any of the sport’s governing bodies.
The date of the awards night, which will be conducted online in a rolling live-blog story format, is to be confirmed but will be announced in due course in print and on our website.
