NHS WORKER’S HOME RAIDED WHILE SHE WAS AT WORK

AN NHS worker has been left “absolutely devastated” after a burglar ransacked her house while she was at work during the Covid19 pandemic.

The 65-year-old widow lost hugely sentimental items in the break-in in Coventry including her wedding and engagement rings given to her by her husband.

The culprit, who climbed on to the kitchen roof to get into the house through a small bathroom window, also took an engagement ring that had belonged to the victim’s mum until she passed away last year. The burglary happened in Browning Road, Stoke, while the healthcare assistant was at work at a GP surgery in the city, on Thursday, April 16, between 10.30am and 2pm.

After finding their way into the house, the culprit ransacked the bedrooms, turning out all of the drawers and wardrobes to steal items, before moving downstairs and then leaving through the back door.

There was nobody in at the time, although the woman’s black Labrador was inside the house.

The victim, who did not wish to be named, said: “I’m absolutely devastated. He got most of my jewellery and I’m just left with empty boxes.

“My mum died last year and I had inherited her engagement ring and they took that as well as my wedding and engagement ring and a Victorian diamond ring. I can’t replace things like that.

“They also got some money, including Euros and money for Dubai. I’m just so thankful that he hasn’t hurt my dog.”
