PICK OF THE DAY

PTHE BIG NIGHT IN BBC 1, 7pm UDSEY is modelling a red nose tonight, as Comic Relief and Children in Need join forces for the first time, raising money for coronavirus projects. Hosts Lenny Henry, Davina Mccall and Matt Baker will be socially distancing of course, but presenting this special telethon live from the studio.

Showbiz hugs will be off limits when Zoe Ball and Paddy Mcguinness take over half way through – they’ll shuffle onto the stage like dog walkers pointedly avoiding contact in a park. Music and comedy performances will be beamed in from home (another great excuse to snoop at celeb gaffs). The line-up so far is impressive. David

Walliams and Matt Lucas are reuniting for a brand new Little Britain sketch and Dawn French promises an unexpected encore of The Vicar of Dibley. Catherine Tate joins in as surly ‘Am I bovvered?’ schoolgirl Lauren, opposite David Tennant as her teacher.

Plus Peter Kay is on telly again for the first time in two years, following the surprise audio comeback of Car Share. He’s recreating his iconic music video for Is This The Way to Amarillo? with some help from the public.

Gary Barlow is singing, the Strictly pros are dancing and we’re promised prizes and surprises along the way, as well as nods to our frontline heroes.

The biggest twist to the regular format? This evening’s show will be short and sweet at three hours. So no West End musicals shaking buckets at you as you wake up on the sofa after too much wine.
