Van driver clocked at more than 130mph on the M6

A WHITE van driver was seen overtaking vehicles at nearly double the speed limit on the M6 in the West Midlands.

He was clocked at more than 130mph on the M6 as he tore along the motorway in Staffordsh­ire.

Staffordsh­ire Police said the driver hit eye-watering speeds at around 11am on Wednesday, April 29.

The speeding motorist was stopped and reported, a spokesman for the force said.

The news comes just days after officer shamed speeding motorists during coronaviru­s lockdown.

An officer said: “The white vehicle in front was spotted travelling along the M6 in the Staffordsh­ire Police area travelling at an eye-watering speed of 133-135mph. Vehicle stopped and the driver has been reported. #Fatal4”

Elsewhere, one motorist was caught travelling at around 95 and 111mph on the A50 in Uttoxeter, which is a 70mph road, by Staffordsh­ire Police.

Officers revealed the incident - and many others as the force warned drivers about not treating the streets as a racetrack during lockdown.

Some examples from the last two weeks: Travelling between 54 and 69mph on the 40mph area at the A34 in Tittensor.

Travelling at 50mph in the 30mph zone of the A449 in Penkridge.

Travelling between 78 and 85mph on the 60mph zone of the A34 between Stone and Stafford.

Travelling between 95 and 111mph on the A50 in Uttoxeter, a 70mph road.

Travelling at speeds in excess of 82mph on the A460 (Hednesford to Rugeley road) where the speed limit is 60mph.
