COVENTRY BID would like to invite you to their bank holiday garden party - with a difference.

This coming Friday is the 75th anniversary of VE Day, which was the day which marked the end of the Second World War.

In celebration of the momentous occasion there is a bank holiday, which is usually celebrated on the Monday. However this year, it will be on the Friday, in honour of the anniversary.

Coventry Bid would like to celebrate this occasion with the people of Coventry, from the comfort of their own home given the current circumstances surrounding coronavirus.

They are asking everyone to celebrate in their own homes and back gardens, with the opportunity to order a VE hamper from a number of local businesses. Coventry Market and a number of other eateries will have dishes and hampers to deliver to the people of Coventry across the three-day weekend.

You could even choose to have an Afternoon Tea delivered to your doorstep on the Friday and Saturday, with the Sunday seeing a traditional roast dinner with all the trimmings delivered.

Trish Willets, Coventry BID director, said: “Like with VE Day, we are full of fighting spirit in Coventry and were determined not to let the war against corona spoil our celebrations.

“After all, Coventry is a city that was scarred by the Second World War but continues to rebuild itself so spectacularly. So, instead of welcoming you into the city for our annual Food Festival, we’re bringing the Food Festival to your front door
