SUSPECTED human bones found by a Warwickshire river are to be examined by experts.

The discovery was made by the River Avon at Barford on Tuesday May 5.

In the aftermath of the discovery, Warwickshire Police confirmed an investigation was underway. Earlier this week a force spokesman said enquiries into the matter were continuing.

A spokesman said an examination of the bones would be taking place and added that all lines of enquiry were being explored.

A Warwickshire Police spokesman said: “An examination of the recovered remains is taking place later this week.

“The scene released.”

The family of missing Coventry mum Nicola Payne have been advised over the discovery, though there is no evidence they are linked to her disappearance.

Following the discovery a Warwickshire Police spokesman said: “We were called at 6.30pm on Tuesday evening (May 5) to a report of suspected human bones found by has now been the river in Barford. An investigation is in its very early stages and all lines of enquiry are being explored.”

Unconfirmed local reports from a villager were that a skull and bones had been found under the bridge over the River Avon in Barford, having been washed downstream.

The villager also said that there was a heavy police presence at the scene following the discovery.

A second villager also spoke of seeing a skull at the scene.

Barford is located around three miles south of Warwick and forms part of the Warwick district.

The village has two pubs, a hotel and a primary school and its population is around 1,300.

In 2014 it was listed by the Sunday Times as one of the top 10 places to live in the Midlands.
