FORMER Coventry City fullback Kenny Sansom is ill in hospital.

The 61-year-old, who made 55 appearances during a threeseason spell with City in the early 1990s, was confirmed to be receiving treatment by a message on his Twitter account.

The tweet read: “He is being well cared for and does not have Covid-19. Kenny’s family and close friends kindly ask the media to respect his and their privacy, plus that of the healthcare workers treating Kenny.”

Sansom, England’s second most-capped full-back behind Ashley Cole with 86 international appearances, represented the Three Lions at both the 1982 and 1986 World Cups.

At club level, he is bestknown for his near 400 outings for Arsenal in the 80s, where he won the League Cup in 1987.

Starting his career at Crystal Palace, he is an eight-time member of the PFA team of the season and went on to also play for Newcastle, Queens Park Rangers, Everton, Brentford and Watford.

Sansom has had muchpublicised troubles with alcoholism and gambling addiction, and in 2015, entered into a detox programme.

RUNAWAY League One leaders Coventry City are now facing an uphill battle to persuade their rivals to vote in favour of ending the season.

A survey conducted by football writers from all 23 League One clubs has revealed that there are now more owners intending to vote in favour of plans to play out their remaining fixtures than there are intending to vote for the season to be curtailed.

The news comes just three days on from a spectacular EFL meeting with lower league clubs that saw League Two deliver a unanimous verdict in favour of ending the season.

That has seen their campaign cancelled with the EFL poised to finalise the league standings on ‘unweighted points per game’ with a four-team play-off to be staged in June to decide the third and final promotion spot.

Just an hour earlier in League One, however, clubs clashed over how their season should be completed with EFL boss Rick Parry forced to bring the meeting to a halt without a decision being made.

It was expected that Parry would allow clubs the weekend to calm before reconvening with them this morning, but that meeting is now understood to have pushed back further into the week.

It is understood that Parry did not hold a clear vote on Friday to determine how each club wishes to settle the season after a group of six “rebel” League One sides released a joint statement revealing their desire to ensure the season is completed on the pitch.

But a survey conducted over the weekend has revealed that there are now as many as nine clubs in League One who will head into the next allimportant conference call with the intention of voting for the season to continue.

That would be a huge blow for Sky Blues fans expecting to see their team promoted with immediate effect.

While not being strongly opposed to playing the season out, it is expected that the Coventry and six of their rivals will vote for the season to be ended immediately.

Their decision has been swayed by an EFL statement confirming that League One will follow League Two in using ‘unweighted PPG’ to decide promotion.

Six clubs remain “on the fence” over the vote and will allow discussions during the conference call to sway their decision.

Meanwhile, relegation-threatened Southend United remain determined that the campaign should be made “null and void”, a move that would start the 2019/20 season from scratch when it is safe to do so.

On the eve of last week’s all-important meeting, a group of six “rebel” League One clubs united to thrash out a joint-statement that outlined their desire to revolt against the EFL’S plans to finish the season on PPG in a move that they hope will allow them to complete the season on the pitch.
