cov & warks set for hottest day of year

-

COVENTRY will be as hot as the Balearics as the warmest day of the year comes this week.

The Met Office said it will get up to 25C across the city and into Warwickshire on Wednesday, May 20.

The temperature in the region will rise generally from today, peaking on Wednesday, before getting cooler again.

But it will be pleasant, with Coventry rivalling holiday hotspots like Ibiza, which will be as warm as 25C on Wednesday, as the city experiences the same level of heat.

According to Met Office meteorologist Matthew Box, warm southerly winds from the Mediterranean start to move north, causing a “mini heatwave”.

Mr Box told the PA news agency: “It’s going to be very hot for large parts of England for most of the week, reaching highs of 27C (80.6F) on Wednesday, which would make it the hottest day of the year so far.

“This will occur due to large areas of high pressure, combined with southerly winds from the continent, bringing with it, pleasant sunshine, dry skies and warmer air.”

Today will be a “rather cloudy morning with occasional sunny spells and the odd shower possible.”

The agency continues: “Through the afternoon the cloud will break giving some longer periods of sunshine, especially in the south. Maximum temperature22c.

“Warm and dry on Wednesday with sunshine after a cloudy start. Sunny spells with rain or even thunderstorms for a time Thursday. Rain overnight into Friday, dry but windy later.”
