BEST OF THE REST
OLD, ALONE AND STUCK AT HOME Channel 4, 9pm
BORIS has revealed his ‘Stay Alert’ system and the country is planning how it will ease itself out of lockdown.
But while many of us will head back to offices, schools, shops and restaurants – albeit socially distanced – what about the elderly and vulnerable who must continue to self-isolate?
For them, lockdown may continue for many more months.
Featuring people from all over the nation and filmed themselves, this documentary charts the lives of those bunkering down for the long-haul.
Suzanne has terminal cancer but is determined to stay healthy with the help of exercise guru the Green Goddess and some obsessive disinfecting, while Desmond has moved in with his daughter and granddaughter to avoid the virus, which has already taken the lives of four of his friends.
And Chris and Yvonne are worried about their severely disabled daughter who is in a care home.
These are the human stories behind the global pandemic.
ABSOLUTELY INDIA: MANCS IN MUMBAI ITV, 8pm
THERE’S a heartbreaking moment in this episode as the Thomas boys chat to their dad on an Indian retreat in Goa.
Ryan, who was forced to be a father figure to the others aged just 11 when their dad Dougie left, starts sobbing when the subject comes up.
“I just missed you every single day, dad, just waiting for you to come back,” he says. While Dougie, dry-eyed, mutters: “I didn’t have the strength.”
All the boys are upset that Dougie talks endlessly of his own father being a hero, something they were deprived of.
This is a funny old travel guide. They have been finding out about their heritage, but also finding out about themselves as a family, reconnecting with their dad and enjoying lads on tour fun. But it has been surprising as well as entertaining.
Adam says: “I thought I was coming on a lads’ holiday and now we’re here on a retreat crying our eyes out.”
